Welcome back to another edition of The Peep Show! It’s been a long time since the last edition, so apologies for that. Also, for the first time in recent memory, I wasn’t able to do live coverage of the NHL Trade Deadline. Instead, I was doing the Trade Deadline at work, so I couldn’t do both at the same time–though some would argue that it’d be easier now than ever. I digress. In any event, it was a very slow deadline, and there wasn’t much in the way of big-name deals like there usually is, so this year’s deadline may have been the best one to miss.
What’s New?
I’ve just added a new Widgets page to the site! As of right now, it simply has a FormSpring box to ask me, or any of the writers on the site, questions about anything you’d like. Basically, you’re on click closer to pissing me off with your stupid, asinine questions. It also has a Twitter widget, which makes it easier for you guys to keep up with my Tweets and get in contact with me/reply to anything I’ve Tweeted. Don’t Tweet me nonsense. I’m working on getting a scoreboard that updates itself live, but they all suck. I had a few good ones way back when VoV was on Blogger, but unfortunately, I can’t seem to get find it again. Working on getting some other widgets posted, so stay tuned for that.
Trade Deadline
It sucked. The Capitals, Canucks, Bruins, Penguins, Sharks, Flames, Leafs, Sens and Lightning all added depth (or rebuilt – Leafs & Sens) either on Deadline Day or the three weeks of activity prior to it, while the Habs, Panthers, Thrashers, Isles and Rangers all dropped the ball on their respective chances to do something for this season or for the future. Not a lot of big names went, probably because we saw some big-name trades happen in the weeks leading up to the Deadline. Also, a lot more UFAs are being re-signed early on rather than letting them get closer to July 1, so the number of tradeable assets are lower this year than in previous years.
One Year Ago…
One year ago this week, Team Canada beat Team USA for the gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen that Crosby goal, it’s gotta be nearing 300 times. The greatest part? It’s never, ever going to get old. It’s an absolute classic.
WrestleMania 27
Yes, I will be watching it. It should be awesome as usual, though I’m not happy with them eliminating the Money in the Bank this year.
UFC 129
No, I will not be attending, but yes, I will be watching. At least the GSP/Shields fight, as well as Couture/Machida. Other than that, I don’t have much interest in the card.
Academy Awards
Didn’t watch it. Apparently, James Franco was high while MC’ing the show. That’s either really funny or really stupid. I haven’t decided yet.
Charlie Sheen
This guy’s my hero. He’s also absolutely insane. In all seriousness, you know you’re living life when you’ve hit Sheen’s level of lunacy.
Song of the Week
“Rope” by Foo Fighters, off their new album “Wasting Light.” It’s supposedly their hardest-sounding rock, and so far, it’s living up to the hype. Great song in what should be a great album.
