The Peepshow #10 – Mailbag, VoV’s New Layout

Q: you said you were going to re-design your site.. is that still the plan?
A: It is, get off my back about it, God! Yeah, that’s still in the works. I accidentally stumbled upon a kickass theme that makes the site look more like a website rather than a blog. We’re still working out the kinks, making sure the load time is decent etc.. When will we see it? Hell if I know. It’s looking like late-November right now, but it’s not set in stone. (I sound *exactly* like Dixie Carter. May God have mercy on us all.)

Q: how do you make money? do you have a side job?
Outside of VoV, yes – I’m currently working a permanent part-time job, and often a temporary full-time job at the same time. Everything done for VoV is done on the side in my spare time, partially because I love sports/wrestling and writing, partially because I need it as a portfolio to kickstart my career. I’m hoping to start turning a profit of VoV very soon, but I’m doing alright without it. So far, I’ve yet to contribute a cent to this site, and I’ve yet to make a cent. I guess you get what you pay for.

Q: When is Triple H coming back to Raw?
A: Triple H is expected to be cleared to work as early as the end of this month from his most recent injury, assuming rehab has gone well. At that point, he would be free to return to TV whenever creative wants him to do so. His status as an office employee is more of a formality than anything else. He’s essentially been working under his father-in-law for years, but only recently was it made official. The big thing would be with Hunter now being recognized as a WWE employee, he is likely entitled to many benefits (including insurance and a 401k retirement plan) he did not have as an independent contractor. Not that he needs it or anything.

Q: What did you think of the WWE Top 25 Talkers list?
A: I like it for the most part. Not sure why Santino is on there. My biggest problem with this is Shawn Michaels being left off. He’s *easily* in the top 5 or 10 of all-time. Kinda surprised the Ultimate Warrior didn’t make it either. Sheamus probably shouldn’t be on there so soon. I agree with the top 5 the way they are, maybe just put HBK at #6. Pretty cool that they came up with that, though.

What’s new?
As per my last Peep Show update, just some minor tweaks and adjustments. I’ve added a new Meta widget, which allows you to see all VoV posts through RSS feeds, which you can also subscribe to (also a widget at the top for that). It makes life a little easier. I’ve also added a Formspring widget to the side of the page, meaning you’re only one click away from submitting any questions or statements you’d like to send my way, or that you’d like to see on the next Peep Show. Finally, a Twitter widget on the side, so you can keep up with the latest VoV Tweets. I’m really trying to get more editorial columns done, but I simply don’t have the time at the moment.

I’ve recently considered making VoV dedicated to columns and editorials, rather than news and rumours (which would force me to write more columns in order to keep putting fresh material on the site), but I don’t really want to steer the site away from rumours, which was my original goal when making VoV. Aside from sports rumours, the two largest traffic generators for this site are wrestling rumours and live trade deadlines (NHL and MLB). Come WrestleMania in March/April, Free Agent Frenzy in July, or the NHL Trade Deadline in March, this site’s traffic goes through the roof, and turning down that many hits that frequently isn’t something I want to do. Aside from that, stay tuned for the theme change in November. The Peep Show, Raw Reviews, etc. are going to have new banners at some point, it’s just a matter of time until I can buckle down and git’r done.

I also recently joined The Bleacher Report where I’m kicking ass, then taking names. Any ‘Instant Classics’ posted here will be posted there as well. If you’re interested, you can find my profile by clicking here. It’s a great site if you’d like to engage in discussion with some other hardcore sports fans. Check it out.
