Song of the Week
Three Days Grace – Never Too Late. One-X is a solid album.
Movie of the Week
Pink Panther (2006). Absolutely. Hysterical.
“I would like to buy a hamburger.”
“I would like to buy…a-ham…bearhgahr.”
“I…”
“Uh…”
“Would…”
“Wouuuuuuuuld…”
“Would…”
“Wwwwweird?”
“To…”
“To-wah?”
“Buy…”
“Bee.”
“Hamburger.”
“Hambuggah!”
I know it’s in the second one, but this one is still a classic. “Allow me to bring you up to speed. We know nothing – you are now up to speed.”
Q: What did you think of Cito Gaston’s ceremony?
A: Epic. Very emotional, and very well done from all aspects. I’ve got an Instant Classic being worked on for this topic, so I’ll save most of it for the column. Looks like it’s going to be a longer one.
Q: Will Christian ever become a main eventer in the WWE?
A: It absolutely kills me to say it, but no. I think him winning the ECW Championship is the closest he’ll get to it. If you want him to carry a company’s major title, rewind a few years and watch his time in TNA when he was NWA Champion. Christian left WWE many moons ago after a meeting with Vince McMahon, which Christian was supposedly told that he wasn’t viewed as a main event performer and likely never would be. Judging by Christian’s return from ECW until now, it doesn’t appear as though anything’s changed. He’s been the most consistent, proven worker on Smackdown, and is probably among the top 3 or 5 workers in all of WWE, but he was jobbing and putting over Alberto Del Rio before his torn pectoral injury. We won’t be seeing him for another 4-6 months. What happens upon his return is in the air – in a perfect world, he makes a surprise return at the Royal Rumble and wins it, taking on John Cena/Edge/CM Punk at WrestleMania. That’d be awesome. Will it happen? Of course not.
Q: Will Nazem Kadri make the Leafs?
A: Probably. The team is pretty bad, not to mention them being thin up the middle. He already looks like he’s in Ron Wilson’s doghouse, but may have worked his way back onto the bubble with his 3-point outing against the Sens. I might prefer Tim Brent over Kadri. I haven’t seen much from Kadri yet, but he looked bad in the preseason game when Wilson called him out. He was bad without the puck, turned the puck over like crazy, and was very slow hustling back on defence. That said, his game last night against the Sens was apparently a great improvement. We’ll see.
Q: What’s up with Matt Hardy?
A: Umm, he’s a lunatic? Watch his videos, they’re creepy, regardless of whether it’s a work or shoot. WWE is probably going to deal with this situation in the very near future, although lines like these have been all over the dirt sheets the past few weeks. WWE is in a bit of a jam at the moment – they want to let him go, but they know he’s going to join TNA as soon as possible. That said, him potentially eventually joining TNA isn’t what will keep him around. If Hardy is trying to get himself fired, WWE should keep him under contract just out of spite. If he’s doing it for fun, well then…what for? He looks like an idiot.
Q: When is Triple H returning? Who is the Raw GM?
A: No news regarding either identity. Triple H was originally expected to be cleared to return in late-October at the absolute earliest, so if that timetable remains in-tact, we’re about one month away from his return. As for the GM, who knows. Could it be HHH? Maybe.
Q: What’s the best matchup you’re looking forward to seeing in the MLB playoffs?
A: Call me crazy, but a Giants/Phillies matchup would be filthy – Lincecum, Cain & Sanchez vs. Halladay, Hamels & Oswalt? Sign me up! All of them are interesting except for the Padres/Phillies one, I just don’t think they match up all that well.
Q: When Vince McMahon retires, who takes over the WWE?
A: I’d assume HHH and Stephanie McMahon would. I don’t think the company would be much different than it is now, if at all, but we’d hopefully get an edgier product. Any way HHH can push WWE back to a more aggressive show should be an improvement.
Q: What’s up with Brett Favre?
A: Lack of training camp. The time it takes for a guy to get ready in camp is what Favre’s doing 3-4 weeks into the NFL season. The rust is showing, and that’s why you *need* training camp. Just ask Hedo Turkoglu.
Q: How come Chris Jericho’s Walls of Jericho sucks?
A: Tell me about it. It’s essentially a Boston Crab. On occassion, depending on the opponent, he actually does the Liontamer circa WCW or WWF No Mercy on N64. He did a few recently on Tyson Kidd and Daniel Bryan, but those guys are smaller and more flexible than the guys he’s usually putting it on. I love the Liontamer when it’s done properly though, that’s the way it should look all the time.
Q: Why do most wrestling sites cover UFC?
A: ‘Cause it’s awesome? A lot of ex-wrestling fans are now UFC fans, so I guess you have to try and adapt with the crowds. But when ex-WWE main eventers like Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar are in the UFC, you’re kinda forced to keep tabs. I still prefer WWE over UFC for a number of reasons, but that’s a discussion for another day.
What’s new?
Just made a few small changes to the sidebar of the site. There’s now a subscribe button on the top if you’re interested in getting RSS updates or anything through email, Facebook, Twitter, or any other kind of social networking feed. Bit more convenient than scrolling all the way to the bottom of the page and doing it. Also, added a calendar – click on the day number to see the new posts for that day – as well as a drop-down menu for archives since VoV’s debut in 2007. Believe it or not, adding these widgets has actually speeded up loading time, and the site keep a very fast loading time on BlackBerries and iPhones.
